Book of the Week: Priceless

To be honest, when I received a copy of Nicole Richie's latest book, Priceless, to review I had no idea what to expect. In my experience the books of most celebrity authors aren't that compelling, still, I'm always up for a new read. I guess sometimes low expectations can help when reading a book, because I was definitely pleasantly surprised by Richie's second venture.

The novel centres around Charlotte Williams, a beautiful little rich girl who is more heart of gold than soulless spoiled brat. In a ripped straight from the headlines plot twist Charlotte's father is indicted for embezzlement and fraud, leaving Charlotte to face the wrath of his victims (including a crazed stalker) and pick up the pieces of her shattered life. Charlotte, however, doesn't crawl up into a ball and die. Instead she heads to New Orleans and her former nanny so that she can start over.

I'm not saying this is a perfect book. There are plot points that are far fetched, fanciful, and some that are quite predictable, still, Charlotte struck me as an endearing character. You wanted her to do well considering how the deck was stacked against her and I was admittedly interested to find out what man she would end up with. I found Priceless to be an optimistic read about the things that really matter in life that would fit well in any beach bag this summer.

Blake for Chanel, Kate in Burberry & Assorted Celeb Style

Here's a first look at Blake Lively's new ads for Chanel's Mademoiselle handbag, shot by Karl Lagerfeld himself. (This is the same red bag Blair carried in the last Gossip Girl episode). What do you think? Me, I think Blake is stunning and can wear just about everything but this image is kinda...boring. And Blake looks a little sickly. Agree or disagree?

I think Blake looks much better in this sparkly silver dress, alongside Lagerfeld and Florence Welch, at a Chanel party in her honour. [via

Kate Middleton appeared at a Shrove Tuesday event in Ireland yesterday wearing a ruffled Burberry trench coat paired with dark hose, shoes and bag. What do you think of the future Princess' look? I quite like the coat myself. Apparently one well wisher in the crowd asked Kate when she was going to stop losing weight and Middleton replied that it was "all part" of the wedding planning. [via]

Nicole Richie has been popping up all over fashion week.
I'm liking this outfit with the ruffled blouse, Rick Owens
leather jacket, Chanel shades and Celine bag. [via]

Pregnant Victoria Beckham looked great in all black at Heathrow. Rumor is Eva Longoria is planning a pink themed baby shower for the Beckhams. I'm kind of hoping she has a girl, I'd love to see just what that baby would wear! [via]

Not to many people would wear boots like this to travel,
but this is so Posh, isn't it?

Scarlett Johansson looks fab on the cover of Vogue China.
Why can't she look this good at awards shows?

And, finally, WTF is up with Tom Brady's hair?
I think he and Gisele make a very cute couple
but I am so confused about this hair situation. [via]

Like the Bieber wasn't bad enough now Brady
has resorted to headbands and scrunchies. [via]

Today is also Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
I'm giving up unhealthy food for the next 40 days.
If you participate what are you giving up?

Beautiful Bride: Nicole Richie & Her Grace Kelly-Inspired Marchesa Wedding Dress

People has revealed the first photograph of Joel Madden and Nicole Richie's wedding. This photo features a smiling Nicole in one of three Marchesa dresses she wore that day. Apparently inspired by Grace Kelly's wedding dress this ballgown features "more than 100 yards of hand-draped silk organza and tulle petals." Pretty and romantic, I think. Can't wait to see more wedding photos in the next People.

Do you see the gown resemblance?
I guess it's most obvious in the lace sleeves
and the wrapped waist area.

Ivanka Trump was another beautiful bride whose Vera Wang was also said to be inspired by Princess Grace's iconic gown. I love the shift from traditional strapless, although when I was shopping for my own dress I found it hard to find anything but strapless.

What do you think of Nicole's first wedding look?

Fab Finds: 02.16.10

HomeSense is such a great place for affordable home decor accessories.  On the weekend I spotted these Foo Dogs ($24.99) and this beautiful Ikat-design pillow ($29) in gorgeous spring shades.  (Please excuse the cell quality photos).

Congrats to Nicole and Joel on their engagement!  I can't wait to see what she wears (and I am loving her with the darker hair).

Any special plans for Mardi Gras?  We will definitely be having pancakes for dinner tonight.  I love having breakfast for dinner, mostly because I'm never awake enough in the morning to have a proper eggs-and-bacon breakfast (and, frankly, the thought of eating a big anything just after waking up makes my stomach turn).  And tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and Lent begins--I've already decided what I'm giving up...Is it just me or does it seem like this year is flying by already?
